The Burke Basketball referee program is designed for community players who have excelled in our program and desire a more managed and adult approach to the game of basketball.

Each year our organization trains volunteer referees to officiate games for the winter season. We would like those interested to register so that we can contact you in the near future for upcoming events related to the referee program.

Please keep in mind this program is very demanding as it requires a very mature personality. Young referees may find themselves having to deal with coaches acting in a 'non-professional' manner. When possible, a young referee will be teamed with an adult during the training period.

Training will be provided each season for both returning and beginning referee candidates. Attending the training sessions is mandatory each season for every non-certified referee. This training is not a guarantee position on the staff as there are always more prospective applicants each season than we can handle or assign games to.

When necessary, Burke Basketball will employ the expertise of Cardinal certified referees.

Winter '08 Training Schedule

We will be having a two part series Basketball Officials' Clinics for all parents and children interested in becoming Burke Basketball Officials . The clinics will be held as follows:

The clinics are mandatory for all officials with 3 years or less must attend, but all are encouraged to attend.

Bring the following:

  • Your own water bottle for refreshments
  • Whistle
  • Running shoes

You must have registered on our referee web site to attend. See the infomation below on how to register correctly.

Upon arrival, please make sure you sign in to recieve credit for attending.

Officiating Basketball is an excellent way for both parents and young adults to contribute to Burke Basketball, as well as get a greater appreciation for the game.

Randy Haswell and Robert Burnard will be conducting the clinics on behalf of Burke Basketball.
