House Draft Evaluation Schedule: The schedule below is for Grades 4-8. There will not be any pre-skill evaluations for Grades K-3. If you attended tryouts for either Travel or Boys House U9 and did not make a team, you must attend the House draft sessions listed below to be considered for a team.

Please check the evaluation table below on the day it is scheduled before leaving your house. This is in case there is a last minute gym change by the local school or county.

House U9 Advanced League (Boys Grades 3/4) Tryouts: Evaluation sessions for 3rd and 4th Grade Boys will be held at Burke School on Friday October 9 from 6:00-9:00 PM and Tuesday October 13 from 6:00-7:30 PM. This is a tryout session, if you do not make this league, show up at the regular House sessions on the schedule below.

Girls HS and JV House Evaluation Schedule: (TBA) For Girls ages 14+, HS Evaluations session dates have not been determined at this time. We will post the information here and send an email to those registered players. Team placement will be based on requests, previous years experience, and school attended. Registered players will be notified by a coach in December. Contact Fran for any questions.

Boys HS and JV House Evaluation Schedule: The Boys evaluation session dates will be held Saturday the 5th of December. Please attend the session below for your age group for which you registered.

All players must attend the draft session and be registered/paid to be considered for team placement.

We will have the evaluations in two groups. See the chart below for details.

Travel - Residence Rules : All Burke players must reside in Fairfax County and are generally limited to our allocated zip codes of (20124, 22015, 22030, 22032, 22039, 22079 and 22153), with 2 zip code and age group exceptions allowed per team. Age groups, zip code allowances, zip/age exceptions and other information can be found at www.fcybl.org.

Travel Team Information :

Travel Tryouts will run on weeknights, from October 1 - 13, as listed below. Please come to as many of the tryouts for your age group as possible.

If you miss one, however, it will not prevent you from being selected for a Travel team. Travel practices, for those players who make a team, will start the week of October 19.

Please register your player as soon as possible through our website, www.burkebasketball.org. On-time registration ends on Oct 10; the Waiting List begins Oct 11, and a $25 late fee will be added to your player’s registration beginning Oct 18.

If your player is not selected for a Travel team, please contact our Registrar, Merrill Magner, at burkebballreg@gmail.com. Let her know whether you want a refund of your registration fee, or to be moved to a House team for your player’s grade (or 1 grade above).

We are still looking for a Travel Coach for the Girls 10&U team, as well as coaches for a second team for Boys 10&U and Boys 11.

Regarding what age group tryout your child should attend, here is an excerpt from the FCYBL (Fairfax County Youth Basketball) Rules:

5.1.4. Grade Exemptions Limited to 2 per Team

Notwithstanding any of the age determination dates for each of the categories set forth in 5.1.4 above, any player currently enrolled and attending public and/or private school or authorized home school by Fairfax County Public Schools may be considered eligible to play in the category in their respective grade.

Except for Boys 13, 15 and 18 and under, no team may have more than two (2) such players with grade exemptions on their roster at any time.

Any player considered being a grade exception must submit a copy of a report card identifying the school and the current grade with the roster.

If the report card does not contain this information, a letter signed by the school principal or vice-principal on school letterhead must be submitted with the team roster verifying the player is in the appropriate grade level.
