II COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT
The primary objective of the Burke Basketball House Program is to create a positive and constructive environment for the children of our community to learn to play and enjoy the game of basketball.
In addition to teaching the basic skills, Burke coaches should strive to make House Basketball a fun and enjoyable experience for all participants. Coaches will be working with a wide range of skill levels, however, they should emphasize that this is a team sport and make every effort to maximize playing time for all participants. Even though we all want to have winning teams, the coaches primary focus should be teaching the basics of the game, fair play, and sportsmanship.
- Know the rules and abide by them.
- Respect the game officials and refrain from addressing them or commenting on their decisions during the play of the game.
- Ensure that fans of his/her team conduct themselves in a positive manner.
- Maintain control of his/her emotions and avoid the use of abusive language.
- Respect the coaches and players of the opposing team both during the play of the game and at its conclusion, win or lose.
- Teach each player to be humble and generous in victory and proud and courteous in defeat.
- Maintain control of his/her emotions and avoid actions, language, and/or gestures that may be interpreted as hostile and humiliating.
- Strive to create a positive and constructive environment for your players to learn to play and enjoy the game.
- Remember that basketball is a game and games should be played for fun.
- Realize, accept, and practice the principle that a team's reputation is built not only on its playing ability but also on the sportsmanship, courtesy and manners of each individual player.
- Ensure that all building rules and regulations are followed by the players and spectators. - Be aware that there is to be no shooting at baskets during time outs or intermission of games that are in progress.
- Follow all rules established by Burke Basketball.
Remember that House Basketball is a game, and games should be played for fun. Winning is nice, however, not the primary objective of House Basketball.
