House Boys Grades 3rd/4th Advance League
Burke Basketball is again offering the House Boys Grades 3-4 Advance League this winter season 2019 - 2020.
For those families of 3rd or 4th grade boys who have registered (or intend to register) for the Winter 2019 - 2020, Burke Basketball will conduct tryouts for the 3rd/4th Grade Boys Advance League. This House League allows for boys in these grades to participate at a relatively higher level of competition and is a path towards play in the Select League (which starts at Grade 5).
As in the past, the Boys 3rd / 4th Advance League will consist of 6 teams of 8 players each. Team formation will be based on tryouts and a subsequent draft. Teammate/car pool preferences and preferences for weekly practice dates will not be prioritized in the Advance League, given that teams are formed by a draft (however, it is recommended you specify this information when you register so it may be considered for the House League in case your player is not selected). All players participating in the tryouts will be notified whether they are selected for the Advance League…either by the respective coach (if selected) or the League Director. We will have open gyms prior to tryouts. Dates for all events are below.
Open gym 1 on Wednesday Oct 2nd from 6:30-7:30 at Bonnie Brae
Open gym 2 on Monday Oct 7th from 6:30-7:30 at Cherry Run
Tryout 1 Monday Oct 14 630-800 at Halley
Tryout 2 Tuesday Oct 15 630-800 at Oakview
Tryout 3 Thursday Oct 17 630-800 at Irving 1 & 2
In order to be eligible to participate in the Advance League, one must attend at least one tryout (it is recommended to attend as many tryouts as possible). At these tryouts, many of the 3rd/4th Advance League coaches will evaluate the boys as they run through warm ups, drills and scrimmages. Please have the participants bring plenty of water. Sideline space may be limited; while you are allowed to stay and watch the tryout, you are also welcome to drop off your son and pick him up at the end.
For Boys 4th graders: 4th grade boys are the youngest age group which Burke Basketball has a draft. If your 4th grade boy is not selected for the Advance League, he must also plan to attend a House Skills Evaluation (separate from and in addition to the Advance League tryouts) at a later date not yet determined and he will be selected in a draft for the Boys 4th Grade House League.
For Boys 3rd graders: If your 3rd grade boy is not selected for the Advance League, he will participate in the Boys 3rd Grade House League.
Please note – when registering your player, the category to select is BOYS HOUSE and then specify your player’s respective grade level. All 3rd grade and 4th grade Boys registrant information will be forwarded to the Advance League Director.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Burke Select Overview Winter 2019/2020
Welcome to Burke Select Basketball!
2019-2020 WINTER SELECT PROGRAM
This program is designed for skilled players, serious about developing their game and seeking a higher level of competition.
Burke's Select coaches are selected by the Burke Basketball Board after evaluation and are asked to coach a minimum of 2 consecutive years, likely
starting with 5th grade. Burke coaches are asked to maintain a welcoming relationship with local high school programs. “Blue” team coaches, which
usually play in the highest division, are required to be the main communicator to the other coaches in that specific gender and grade group.
Burke Basketball participates in the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL) Visit the FCYBL for all rules, including grade and zip code restrictions Burke Basketball zip codes usually are: 20124, 22015, 22030, 22032, 22039, 22079, 22151, 22152, and 22153
Age group is determined by the player's grade (proof of grade and zip are required by the league) Usually two tryouts for evaluations and one "invite-only" tryout. Tryouts can start as early as the last weekend in September, schedule will be posted soon. Each age group will have open gyms in September leading up to tryouts.
PRACTICE / TRAINING
Select teams practice two (2) nights a week. Burke Select is again partnered with Evolution Basketball and Ultimate Basketball Training (UBT) to provide skills training once a week. This is in addition to the two team practices a week. Skills training can cost up to $400 per month per child or $25-$50 per session. Burke Basketball increased Select base fees by only $40 per player for the entire season, which comes to $4 per training session!
Games are played at various locations throughout Fairfax County. Usually 1 game per week - can be on weekdays, but primarily on weekends.
*Base Fee: $240.00 includes two practices/week from NOV-FEB, 1 skill training session/week and 13 total games *Uniform Fee: $90.00 includes royal blue jersey and shorts, white jersey, reversible practice jersey and Burke travel warmup. Players do not need to purchase a jersey set if they already have one that fits. (Players who are new to a team should check to be sure that there are NOT jersey number conflicts on that team.)
